Hoaxes and Urban Legends: Audi A8 made out of silver

A series of pictures making the rounds in a chain mail that shows off the wealth of the ruler of Abu Dabi in the United Arab Emirates (UAE). The final pictures show a silver Audi A8 limousine, which the author claims is made out of silver.

In the reality, the car is not actually made out of silver but out of aluminium ("aluminum" to Americans), as are all A8s by Audi. It's about three times lighter than steel, yet a stiff body can be built from it, which is why most airplanes are also made from aluminium alloys.

This car was stripped off its regular paintwork. Then the aluminium was specially polished and finally sealed using clear varnish. For details read the report on the website of MTM, a German tuning company which did the work.
