The following spam advertising "pc-home.biz" was caught by our filter on 2005-05-17. Several things look suspicious, see comments below. We seriously doubt whether this is a genuine business.

What's wrong with this picture?

  • The company was advertised in spam. This is always a red flag, as it puts into question how ethical the business is run (domain Bllizarde.com redirects to http://www.pc-home.biz as the spammers are trying to protect their domain).
  • The website mentions Western Union on its homepage. Western Union is one of the least secure payment methods for online purchases. Its the preferred payment method for online scams.
  • No street address listed on the website. Here is the contact info: TRADESTONE CORPORATION.

  • No legitimate online store that we know offers free worldwide shipping for Notebooks.
  • The postal address of the registrant in the domain registration does not match the company address or name. It appears to be fake. The phone number is definitely fake.
  • The homepage shows a "Thawte secure site" icon, but when you invoke the domain via https:// the certificate that is actually used is invalid because it was issued for a totally different website and it wasn't issued by Thawte either.
  • The site exists or has existed under three different names, created in 3 1/2 month intervals:
    • http://www.trade-stone.com/ (dead, created 2004-09-01)
    • http://www.pc-home.biz/ (live, created 2004-12-19)
    • http://www.lescaro.com/ (live, created 2005-03-31)
  • On their "About Us" page the company lists quotes by customers. One of these quotes referes to the company as "Momento LTD". A Google search for this name leads to http://www.skytech-computers.com/about.htm, which means pc-home.biz is a reincarnation of "Skytech Computers", another scam. skytech-computers.com/about.htm uses the same customer testimonials as pc-home.biz/about.htm. Google finds the phrase "Attention to the interests of the Customer" (with identical capitalisation) on exactly four websites (it doesn't know about pc-home.biz yet):

    • www.trade-stone.com/about.html
    All these sites are largely identical.
